Frequently Asked Questions

Did you know your body has an amazing and innate capacity to heal itself?

What’s involved in a Discovery Call?

The discovery call is our mutual opportunity to see if we are a best fit for each other and an opportunity for you to ask any questions about homeopathy and how it works, so that when we meet for your initial consultation, we can spend as much time as possible fully understanding your entire symptom picture.

What is involved in a Chronic Care Consultation?

Appointments are typically scheduled and conducted online via Zoom. In-person, local appointments are available upon request in the Greater San Diego area. You will be asked to fill out a consent form and provide information about your primary health complaints.

The first appointment will be for about 90 minutes to 2 hours where we will discuss your health concerns, your health history and all the ways in which your body presents symptoms. We discuss your mental and emotional wellbeing also, taking a truly holistic approach to your health. This in-depth meeting allows me to identify patterns within your symptoms that can be matched with one of thousands of homeopathic remedies we have available to us.

Each person experiences their symptoms in a different way, so named conditions and diagnoses are of less importance than how the experience is for you as an individual. Two people may have the same diagnosis of migraine, for example, but for one person it could be a throbbing pain over the left eye with aura and for another it could be pain in the back of the head with nausea. Major life events may be taken into consideration and I will be looking for patterns or symptoms from when your health took a turn from its former healthy state.

After the consultation, I will spend a lot of time carefully analyzing your information and select a remedy recommendation for you, which will be selected in a potency and method of dosing that most closely matches your vitality. The case analysis process can take a few days since I am very thorough in my analysis, but I will let you know how long to expect to hear from me.

Once you have received your remedy, we usually will check in within 10 days of starting your remedy to see how things are going and then a formal follow up will be scheduled about 4-6 weeks from starting your remedy.

What happens at the follow up?

The follow up meeting is shorter – usually 30 to 45 minutes – and we will check on your progress and make adjustments as needed. It is recommended to commit to at least 2-3 follow ups initially, every 4-6 weeks, but once a well-matched remedy is established and you are progressing well in your journey, the goal is to meet less frequently as you will be moving towards better health.

Do you work with children?

I enjoy working with children and, depending on their age and ability, they can be involved as little or as much as they would like. Generally for young children, I will be able to witness their case through their guardian/ parental figure, but it is helpful to briefly meet the child where possible – because a) it’s a joy for me to work with them and b) it’s helpful to understand a bit more about them. If a child is old enough, and has the ability to participate, is it helpful to hear them describe the ways they experience things in their own words as this can be insightful for the most appropriate remedy choice. However, much can be gained through the process of observation and case history for a non-verbal child, or an infant.

What are remedies made from?

Homeopathic remedies can be made from a number of different substances but typically come from a plant, mineral or animal substance. They come in a variety of formats, such as coated on sucrose or lactose pellets, liquid drops, creams, gels and tablets.

What is 'not' homeopathy?

Homeopathy is not herbal medicine, essential oils, vitamins, supplements, home remedies, chemical substances etc. Often the term ‘holistic’ and ‘homeopathy’ are used interchangeably. Homeopathy is a form of ‘holistic’ medicine, not a new-age fad or witchcraft, but it is an entire system of its own with its own well-defined principles laid out by German Physician Samuel Hahnemann over 230 years ago and rooted in the laws of nature.

How are remedies made?

As a general example, Homeopathic remedies are made by taking part of a source material, which can be a plant, mineral, animal or other, and diluting it in liquid (water/ alcohol) in a ration of 1 part substance to 10 parts of liquid for a decimal potency and 1 part substance to 99 parts liquid for a centesimal potency. One part of the solution made is then diluted again in 10 or 99 parts of liquid and this process is repeated over and over. After each dilution the mixture is vigorously shaken, transferring the healing properties and energy into the liquid. The final dilution is often transferred to sucrose or lactose pellets that are easy to consume and the pellets are allowed to dry.

How are homeopathic remedies administered?

Remedies can be taken as dry pellets, or given in water as a liquid dose. The frequency of repetition and potency will be determined by the practitioner. Homeopathy is administered based on the concept of the minimum dose needed to bring a change in the organism.

Where can I buy remedies?

I will make recommendations and provide instructions of where you can obtain remedies. I like to support Hahnemann Labs, since they are located in California and are known for their excellent quality. Recommendations may vary depending on your location.

But how does it all work?

Homeopathic remedies are carefully selected based on identifying a similar pattern to that of your symptoms. The remedy itself, when matched carefully with a similar pattern to your symptoms, sends a message to your vital force to gently restore balance. The remedy is the messenger, but it is your vital force that does all the work once it has been stimulated to trigger its innate healing mechanism. Homeopathy uses highly diluted remedies that stimulate on an energetic level rather than via a chemical substance.

What you mean by the “vital force”?

The vital force is your energy, your life force, the invisible spirit-like energy that animates your body. Homeopathic remedies stimulate your vital force by sending a similar message to that of your symptom picture, to signal your body to heal itself.

Can homeopathy be used alongside my conventional medication?

Homeopathy can be taken alongside medication. It does not interact with or reduce the effects of medication, and there are no contraindications. However, if you are taking prescription medications, it is important to discuss any decisions related to your medication with your primary healthcare provider.

Can homeopathy support mental and emotional issues as well as physical ones?

Absolutely, and is one of the reasons why I love this modality of healing as I have seen first hand the difference it can make in mental health after my own experience with postpartum anxiety. A well-selected remedy has the capacity to support the whole person in mind, body and spirit bringing balance to the whole self. Many times, the mental and emotional symptoms will reveal subtle (and sometimes bold!) shifts before, or alongside, the physical.

How long does it take to see a change in health?

It varies so much depending on the individual and how long it has been since you were last well. For acute issues, you may see results within minutes, hours or days. For chronic cases, there is often much health history that contributed to your symptom picture and healing takes time and patience and trust in the process and trust in your homeopath. You may notice changes within days, but it can often time to see significant change, depending on the complexities of your case. Your chronic symptoms didn’t turn up overnight and there is no set timeline or direction on how you will heal.

Homeopaths take detailed notes and often you will forget about symptoms that have resolved because they no longer are front and center for you. I always recommend that you commit to follow ups so that your healing can be assessed over time and you can see your progress. Sometimes it’s a straight path to wellness… and sometimes it’s a zig-zag – but moving in the right direction and supporting you along the way, is always my goal when working with you.

How do I know if my remedy is helping?

Signs of improvement can vary but typically changes to sleep, overall energy, mood, resolution of chief complaints, improved digestion and elimination can all be indicators of moving in the right direction. In acute cases where symptoms present more rapidly, if there is no change seen within 3-4 doses, it is usually not a well-matched remedy and another will be selected.

Will I need to take a remedy forever?

As you begin to improve your health and symptoms reduce or disappear, we will need to meet less often, or there may be no need at all. We never know what life will bring and my goal is to reduce the need for your care but to be available if any new health challenges arise in the future.

Can you take acute cases only?

Yes, I can - although if I am seeing the same clients more than a couple of times for acute issues that are similar in nature, I will recommend chronic care.

REMINDER: Homeopathy is not a replacement for Accident or Emergency Care. If you have an urgent medical need, please contact your local Urgent Care or Emergency Department. I am not available 24/7 - If you are unable to reach me in an acute situation please refer to professional homeopathic services provided by the Homeopathy Help Network or Homeopathy 24/7. Thank you.

Can I combine services?

Yes, let's chat. I offer other services aside from Homeopathy, such as Bach Flower Consultations for emotional well-being. I would be glad to discuss how we can combine services at cost-effective rates if it is appropriate to your plan of care.

How do you contribute to homeopathic research?

I work alongside HOHM Foundation and the Institute for the Advancement of Homeopathy through research. For more information please see my 'Services' page and research statement.
